The following photos are all taken by our Women's Athletic Media Staff at the 2000 NCAA Cross Country Championships in freakin' freezin' Ames, Iowa.
It was a -17°F (-28°C) stormy day and I had the biggest trouble handling those conditions mentally...people said to me "Oh, you are German, you should be used to that!"...however, it really isn't that cold back in Ole Germany! It hardly goes below 30°F there. Before the start, our team put olive oil on all exposed skin parts to try to protect ourselves somewhat from the freeze, which did not make things too much better, unfortunately... :-(
It took me more than week after that race to defrost again...:-p
