"Photography for me is not looking, it's feeling. If you can't feel what you're looking at, then you're never going to get others to feel anything when they look at your pictures." -Don McCullin

Tour de France 2005
|
French Alps. Région Rhone-Alpes. Département Haute-Savoie. Tour de France 2005 - Scene of the last merciless strike of The Big Boss, Lance Armstrong.
Courchevel was the finish of the first big mountain stage in the Alps that commenced in Grenoble and led across the Col de La Croix de Fer and the final climb into Courchevel
at an altitude of 1850m. In this stage, Armstrong missed his first stage win but had to give in to the Spanish Iles-Baleares rider Mancebo.
The following day the peloton conquered three more cols, the Madelaine, the Télégraphe and the highest of them all, the Galibier at 2609m.
I had never watched the Tour live before in my life. I was hoping to watch it this year live in the Pyrenees in my backyard. I had lived in Limoux in the foothills of the
Pyrenees all year long but had to move back to Germany right before the Tour as most races and training camps took place there. No Tour 2005, I thought disappointed. But then an e-mail
reached me unexpectedly, suggesting this Tour de France Alpine road trip. Sure enough a few days later we were off heading South. For a full report about the trip, go to Scoop
to read more.
Unfortunately, I did not have a camera with me to pursue my hobby photography. All photos you see above I took with my TdF companion's camera. This camera had very limited features (zero manual options) and quality so
most of the photos are not the greatest. Sorry.
